“Self-pity is our worst enemy and if we yield to it, we can never do anything wise in this world.” ~ Helen Keller
I love Helen Keller, I really do. She’s such an inspiration, because not only did she overcome handicaps many would use as an excuse, she flourished. She gave to others and was an eternal optimist.
If anyone had the “excuse” to indulge in self-pity, it was Helen Keller, and look what she has to say about it. Amen, I say!
I just realized that some might not know who Keller is. Born in 1880, when she was 19 months old, she had a severe illness that left her blind and deaf. Because of the differences in education back then, her speech stopped developing. Through the help of her teacher, Annie Sullivan, she learned to communicate with others, eventually graduating from Radcliffe College and went on to become a famous motivational speaker and writer.
