Keep Calm and Carry On!

“Few things are brought to a successful issue by impetuous desire, but most by calm and prudent forethought.” ~ Thucydides

Britain’s WWII propaganda has become an internet meme gone global. But I admit, I enjoy the original. It’s a pretty good idea if you ask me.

I like calm. I get so much more accomplished, as Thucydides points out. But I seem to live in a culture that loves tempests, or as my students say, “drama”. I see far too much manufactured hysteria on a day to day basis which I find distracting.

I’m not the only one distracted, of course, which is why this hysteria, impetuosity and flailing about worries me. So much wasted energy that could be better used accomplishing things.

So a call for calm in the craziness of the days we live in. Calm is our friend, and now we can even get a tee shirt telling us so, so it must be true!
