The Need for Rest

“We humans have lost the wisdom of genuinely resting and relaxing. We worry too much. We don’t allow our bodies to heal, and we don’t allow our minds and hearts to heal.”~Thich Nhat Hanh

This is something that needs saying and bears repeating.  We are bad at this, and I think Americans are some of the worst, at least that’s what I’ve gleaned from living abroad in many different countries.

I know I’m one of the worst offenders.  For weeks I promised myself a day in bed the first day the semester ended. I would read, watch movies and do nothing “responsible”. I made it to 10:30 before I “had” to get up.  Oh, I managed a movie and some reading later in the day, but I get too caught up in the “must do” list.

So something to work on in the coming year, learning how to rest. Allowing time to heal, physically and mentally.

I hope you’re wiser than I, but I think this is a problem for most. Something to think about as we rush through this busy season.
