“When the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again.” ~ Edith Hamilton
In the course of a class discussion today, I asked students who wants to be responsible. No one raised a hand. Many were quite vocal about how responsibility is too hard, too much work.
Hamilton’s quote sprung to mind so I asked, “Who wants to be free?” Everyone raised a hand.
I sense a problem.
In fact, I have sensed a problem for a while. Too many people see responsibility as a bad word, and this is leading our world in a very sad direction.
Just a point to ruminate on today. Just putting it out there trying to encourage a sense of responsibility.
