“Nine hundred years of time and space and I’ve never met anybody who wasn’t important.” ~ the Doctor, as written by Steven Moffat
This coming weekend marks the 50th anniversary of the British sci-fi show Doctor Who. A show doesn’t last 50 years without good writing and wisdom. And this week, I’m going to be sharing some of the Doctor’s wisdom. There’s a reason I’m a fan for over 30 years. I think the Doctor and I could be very good friends.
I do know that the Doctor isn’t real, but that doesn’t make his words any less potent. And Doctor Who is a children’s show, really. The best shows, movies and books for children appeal to all ages, but that’s the age to give them the important messages.
And I can’t think of a better idea to plant in children’s brains than “everyone is important.” Somewhere, somehow, sometime, we all have a role to play and no one should ever be thought “unimportant”.
